ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

STEPS has an exciting opportunity for an Employment Consultant with experience in mental health to join their Specialist Mental Health Program team on a full time contract basis to March, 2018. This role will service both the Caboolture and Redcliffe offices and the successful candidate must also be prepared to work across both locations as required. You will have the option to base yourself at either location and/or split your time between the two (ie half the week at each).

The primary purpose of this role will be to assist individuals with mental illness to secure and maintain sustainable employment in the open labour market. You will plan and organise your own duties, as well as contributing to team performance.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Case managing each job seeker in accordance with contractual requirements within STEPS Service Delivery Model to achieve individual performance goals and contribute to overall effectiveness of the Disability Employment Service, DMS program;
  • Conducting a participant skills assessment to determine a job plan which will include appropriate assessments and interventions to identify and address vocational barriers, educational achievements, skills gaps and job search activities;
  • Reverse marketing job seekers to secure sustainable employment;
  • Working with and developing STEP's relationship with Headspace – Youth Mental Health team;   
  • Providing appropriate post placement and/or on-going support to maximize participant employment outcomes; and
  • Consistently sharing knowledge, information and resources with team members to assist a high performing site which operates in compliance with relevant legislation, contracts, guidelines and policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you must have demonstrated experience with an employment service provider delivering training in the workplace. Candidates with a background in disability employment services or mental health services will be highly regarded. In addition, qualifications at a Certificate level (or higher) in mental health, employment or disability is a requirement for this role.

In addition, as you will play an important role in developing STEP's relationship with the Headspace Youth Mental Health team, an understanding and desire to work with youth will also be critical to your success. Please note:

  • To be eligible for this role you must hold a current Driver's License. 
  • You will be required to undertake a Criminal History Check and Working with Children and/or Vulnerable Persons Check. This can be organised through STEPS.
