We are seeking a National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) for an established role in our Nth Qld region.

A typical day in the life of an NDCO involves travel through the North Queensland region to attend or speak at community/regional meetings and events, collate and provide information to enhance your one-stop information shop; enhance promotional material/website; write a report; man a booth at a Careers Expo; book a guest speaker; manage your administration/travel… all the while working through the Business Plan to achieve your KPI’s in a constantly changing environment.

To succeed in this role you will thrive on autonomy and meeting people, you will be a strategic thinker and communicator and an experienced networker within the Education, Employment, and/or Community sectors. You will facilitate effective communication and collaborative projects with stakeholders from Schools/VET/Further Education, Employment, and Community sectors, to address identified gaps in service delivery. You will be passionate about enhancing access to accurate information and support for people living with disability to assist their post-school transitional phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve transition outcomes for people with a disability between school and/or community and higher education and/or vocational education training, and then on to subsequent employment
  • Achieve participation outcomes for people with a disability in higher education and vocational education and training and subsequent employment
  • Build linkages between schools, higher education and vocational education, and training providers of disability programs to overcome barriers to gain access to and successfully complete education and/or training and then subsequent employment.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with diverse clients including those from indigenous and multicultural communities
  • Proven experience in disability services and/or higher education, vocational education institutes (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise barriers to engagement in learning, and vocational development for people with disability
  • Effective communication skills including conducting presentations and public speaking, interpersonal and customer service skills, report writing and developing resources
  • Data entry and typing skills with the ability to use a variety of computer programs.

Qualifications

You will also possess the following qualifications:

  • Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification in Education, Community and/or Social Sciences or related fields
  • Have the ability to hold all safety when working with children and/or vulnerable persons cards required under State and/or Federal legislation and/or regulation, and receive acceptable results from any criminal history checks
